Sharing is caring!
Kuwait Airways is the national carrier of Kuwait, with its head office on the grounds of Kuwait International Airport, Al Farwaniyah Governorate.
Travel insurance is not available when we book a flight on Kuwait Airways. This is good news! We can shop in the open marketplace for travel insurance to meet our needs. Let’s book a flight then see what is available for travel insurance through TripProtectors.
Our Sample Trip – JFK to Dubai
For our sample trip, our two travelers book a flight from JFK to Dubai, UAE from December 19 – 31.
Kuwait Airways provides a simple grid showing two weeks of flight fares based on the dates entered. Lowest prices are flagged for quick reference.
Selecting a date opens up the fare option available for the fare type originally chosen. For example, when selecting the Economy fare, when a date is selected, both Economy and Economy Flex fares are shown.
Be aware - if you decide to opt for a different fare choice, such as Business or First Class, you have to go back to the original flight details screen and begin again to get the fare pricing for the new fare type.
For our trip, we selected Economy fares. Choosing the Economy fare and click on it opens up the details for each of the two Economy fare types – Economy and Economy Flex:
Both Economy and Economy Flex charge fees for Date Changes, and No Shows but neither show what these fees are. Since they both charge penalty fees, there doesn’t seem to be any point to paying an additional $257 for Economy Flex fares. Therefore, we chose the Economy fare.
If we had opted for Business fares, there is only one choice available for our trip – Business Plus:
This fare also charges penalty fees for date changes and no-shows. Pricing difference between Business Plus and Economy is $3070. Quite a big jump for a fare that still charges penalty fees!
Choosing our Economy fare option, the total pricing for our trip is $4,446.96.
Now that the trip is booked, let’s look for travel insurance in the open marketplace through TripProtectors.
TripProtectors – The Travel Insurance Marketplace
At TripProtectors we are experts in travel insurance, and work with leading US travel insurers. Inputting our trip details into the quoting system, we received 21 quotes to choose from.
How do we decide which plan to choose?
When traveling to Dubai, TripProtectors recommends having a minimum of $100,000 of medical coverage and a minimum of $500,000 medical evacuation coverage.
The least expensive plan that has adequate coverage is the Trawick First Class.
This policy provides $150,000 of medical coverage and $1 million of medical evacuation coverage as well as a waiver to cover pre-existing medical conditions if the policy is purchased within 14 days of the initial trip payment or deposit date. Total cost for both travelers combined is $233.02.
If we cancel for a listed reason in the policy, such as illness or injury, we’ll receive a 100% refund of our trip costs.
However, if we want maximum cancellation flexibility, we need to look at a different type of policy – a Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) policy.
Cancel For Any Reason (CFAR) Policies
A Cancel For Any Reason policy provides maximum cancellation flexibility for travelers that need it. It will refund either 50% or 75% or our trip costs (depending on the policy) if we need to cancel for a non-listed reason such as simply deciding not to travel.
The least expensive CFAR policy on our list with the maximum refund of 75% is the Trawick First Class (CFAR 75%) for $396.13.
The policy provides the same benefits as the standard Trawick First Class policy listed above but adds the Cancel For Any Reason benefit if we purchase the policy within 10 days of the initial trip payment or deposit date.
While slightly more expensive than the standard Trawick policy, it provides us with maximum cancellation flexibility. By purchasing a CFAR policy instead of a refundable airline ticket, we can get refundable benefits with a non-refundable ticket! TripProtectors calls this the Airline Ticket Hack.
TripProtectors Travel Marketplace – One Site – Many Carriers
We love Amazon and are fans of Expedia. Comparison-shopping is simple. Sites like TripProtectors do the same for travel insurance. Would you like to visit each travel insurance carrier directly? Of course not. Take the Amazon-like travel insurance experience at TripProtectors.
The beauty of insurance comparison through a marketplace like TripProtectors is that you get to see all the best prices in the market and make an informed decision.
Does TripProtectors charge More?
You won’t find the same trip insurance plans available at a better price – price certainty is guaranteed because of anti-discriminatory insurance law in the US. Take a look at the article Travel Insurance Comparison – Will I Pay More Buying Travel Insurance from a Comparison Website? This is powerful consumer protection.
A travel insurance marketplace like TripProtectors will offer a multitude of different plans from some of the most respected travel insurance carriers in the country. You will only need a few minutes to check value for money, coverage, and insurance carrier ratings.
Enjoy your next trip with Kuwait Airways and don’t forget your travel insurance.
